The University of Oxford and the Reuters Institute published their Digital News Report. This year’s issue focusses on trust in the era of fake news, changing business models and the role of platforms.
The report reveals new insights about digital news consumption based on a YouGov survey of over 70,000 online news consumers in 36 countries. Among the key findings: growth in social media for news is flattening out, while the use of WhatsApp for news is starting to rival Facebook in places like Malaysia, Brazil, and Spain.
