ETNO holds virtual General Assembly, approves Strategy and Governance for 2021

Brussels, 28 October 2020 – ETNO, the Association representing Europe’s leading telecom operators, has successfully completed its General Assembly, which took place virtually during the month of October 2020. This is the first time, since ETNO was founded in 1992, that a General Assembly takes place only online, due to the current health situation.

The decisions of the General Assembly are as follows:

  • Executive Board positions are subject to a 3-year mandate. The composition of the Board remains stable also for 2021 and the following companies, whose mandate expired this year, were reconfirmed in the Board: Deutsche Telekom, Proximus, Swisscom and TIM. Therefore, there are no changes to the composition of the Board. Steven Tas (Proximus) has been reconfirmed as Executive Board Chair.
  • ETNO’s Strategy for 2021 was approved and it is based on the following 4 strategic drivers:
    1. Promote an increasingly united message from the telecoms industry;
    2. Pursue both thought-leadership and purpose;
    3. Foster inclusive and constructive policy positioning;
    4. Ensure agile use of resources for the pandemic and post-pandemic advocacy
  • Budget 2021: the General Assembly approved a stable budget for 2021.

The Director General and the Executive Chair also thanked the ETNO Team and the Members for their continued hard work throughout the year, despite the extremely challenging times.

Lise Fuhr, ETNO Director General, said: “ETNO and its members approved solid plans for 2021, with a view of providing continued support for digitalisation policies in these difficult times. Purpose and sustainability have emerged as clear drivers of inclusive policy and advocacy going forward”.
