European Telecommunications Network Operators' Association

Press release: ETNO at the FCC Open Internet Roundtable: “Let’s talk Future, Innovation and Investments”

Washington D.C., 16 September 2014 – ETNO, the Association representing Europe’s biggest telecom operators will take part today in the first “Open Internet Roundtable” meeting, organized this fall by the Federal Communications Commission.

ETNO Director Daniel Pataki will speak alongside Jeff Campbell (Vice President, The Americas, Cisco Systems), Professor Jon M. Peha (Professor, Engineering & Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University), Matt Wood (Policy Director, Free Press), Corie Wright (Director of Global Public Policy, Netflix) and Professor Christopher Yoo (John H. Chestnut Professor of Law, Communication, and Computer & Information Science, University of Pennsylvania Law School).

ETNO has engaged in the Open Internet debate from the beginning, advocating a level-headed and fact-based global dialogue with all stakeholders.

Daniel Pataki said: “The transatlantic debate on the Open Internet is a fundamental one. Excessive divergence on principles, especially if they are enshrined in law, might harm the internet as a global, interconnected ecosystem”.

ETNO supports the Open Internet and agrees that transparency and consumer choice are fundamental aspects of the debate. In addition to this, ETNO has long advocated a pro-innovation, pro-investment and future-proof approach to the Open Internet discussion.

Daniel Pataki added: “Telcos are each Nation’s digital spine. Let’s talk future, innovation and investments. We are fully on board”.
