ETNO wishes a warm welcome to the Slovenian Presidency, kicking off today! We look forward to advancing the progress on digital files, building on the achievements of the German and Portuguese Presidencies, as part of the current trio.

Slovenia's six-month programme is based on four priorities. Under the slogan "Together. Resilient. Building digital networks to boost roll-out,
uptake, and inclusion

European telecom operators are busy speeding up the transition to 5G and fibre networks. Estimates show that €300bn investment is still needed to achieve full gigabit connectivity, with significant socio-economic and environmental gains from such investment. The EU has presented ambitious targets in its 2021 Digital Compass and it is working on policies ranging from the Broadband cost reduction directive to the connectivity toolbox. How do we make sure Europe’s connectivity policies speed up inclusive roll-out across the EU?

Rita Wezenbeek (Director Connectivity, EU Commission) underlined the need for 5G business demand, but also the importance of having spectrum policies that prioritise investment, in her intervention at last week’s #DigitalPolicyDay with MLex. The full speech and panel discussions on digital networks are now available for replay at the link below:
