What is the interplay between semiconductors and telcos?
Our Director General Lise Fuhr joined the event organised today by EURACTIV and her main messages were:
(1) 📶 Ubiquitous broadband communication is needed for cloud computing, AI, IoT, 5G, 6G or autonomous driving. Telcos are an important part of the picture when talking semiconductors
(2) 🇪🇺 As with new generations of connectivity, Europe faces a big opportunity with semiconductors: it is a growing and strategic market for society and economy. The challenge is to keep the new value created in Europe and make it useful to the European economy and society.
(3) 🤝 Industrial policy is the best tool to tackle historical challenges, such as transition to new telecom networks or to a stronger Europe in semiconductors. It is all about collaboration: among industrial players, a solid strong public-private framework, but also as an ecosystem with innovation at the center.

The Path to the Digital Decade ’
In this video interview Ms Rita Wezenbeek, Director for Connectivity in DG CNECT, explains how the “The Path to the Digital Decade” will ensure that Europe reaches its 2030 Digital Decade objectives. This governance framework will be based on an annual cooperation mechanism involving the Commission and the Member States.
It focuses on 4 points in order to identify the main goals to reach over the next decade: 1. a digitally skilled population and highly skilled digital professionals; 2. secure and sustainable digital infrastructures; 3. digital transformation of businesses; 4. digitisation of public services.
