ETNO Position Paper on the
European Commission’s proposal on CSAM

ETNO welcomes the initiative taken by the European Commission to prevent and combat child sexual abuse material online. ETNO members have been actively engaged in numerous initiatives to this end, including collaboration with law enforcement agencies, and the implementation of blocking lists. Nevertheless, encryption should remain crucial for network security and the confidentiality of communications must be upheld.

The Commission’s proposal is highly relevant and timely, given the prevalence of this serious issue, and telecommunications network operators have long been – and will continue to be – committed to playing our part in ensuring the safety of the digital ecosystem. Nevertheless, we believe there are some aspects of the proposed Regulation which require improvement for the final rules to form part of a holistic and effective set of instruments to strengthen capacities and combat this type of crime.

#ThinkDigital Interview: Anne Marie Engtoft Larsen, Denmark’s Tech Ambassador

Anne Marie explained what her main priorities as a EU Tech Ambassador are: sharing and convening around EU pieces of legislation and building ties between Brussels and the companies in Silicon Valley.

Denmark’s Tech Ambassador believes that the EU and the US should collaborate to set a democratic human rights perspective approach globally, and that healthy competition between them can eventually make better results & exchanges. Moreover, she is of the opinion that we need to see even better competition when it comes to start ups and scale ups and making it attractive for not only European companies to go to Silicon Valley, but also for US companies to come to Europe, be part of Europe scaling up here.
