The Trade Working Group’s (WG) broad objectives are (1) to ensure that ETNO Members' interests are fully reflected in the evolution and implementation of WTO agreements affecting Digital Economy through inter alia “telecommunications” or “e-commerce” chapters, notably in the Free Trade and Investment Protection Agreements signed by the EU; (2) that the Association is contributing effectively and shows leadership in the context of European activities towards the conclusion of the multilateral WTO Doha Round, the negotiation of plurilateral Services Agreement or the negotiation of bilateral and regional Free Trade Agreements with the EU’s trading partners, and on other international trade and regulatory issues where necessary.
- With the concern of the adaptation to the new realities of the sector, identify key priorities for ETNO members in relation to the negotiations of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA).
- If appropriate, liaise with other relevant associations (US Telecom, AHCIET, GSMA, SAMENA, CCIA…) in order to identify points of common interests regarding the multilateral trade negotiations.
- Assure ETNO's active participation in relevant fora to develop input on horizontal issues linked to the WTO and the FTA negotiations, not only with regard to “telecommunications” and “e-commerce” chapters, or the broader term of Digital Economy, but also to those horizontal issues which are of importance for operators.
Working Group Structure
ETNO WGs are the engine of the Association. The bottom-up approach when formulating ETNO position papers ensures that all ETNO member interests are captured. The Trade WG Chair is David Frautschy Heredia of Telefónica: email@example.com.
