The SAMENA Telecommunications Council's Telecom Leaders' Summit 2014 kicked off today in Dubai. Hosted by Huawei, the Summit will cover "The Rise of the Broadband Economy - Shaping Excellence in Cooperation - Government, Telecom Operators, Internet Players". The aim of the event, according to Samena, is to provide stakeholders with opportunities to exchange ideas and cooperate on industry issues to identify solutions with far-reaching benefits. This comes as particularly important for the region, considering that ICT, in this area of the world, is on the threshold of a digital revolution. The discussions will span three areas including the Role of Government, Digital Governance and Broadband Development Strategy. Luigi Gambardella, Chairman of ETNO, has been asked to bring the view of Europe’s telecom operators to the table and he will address key issues like the sustainability of the internet model, the need for sustained investments in new networks and the relationship between internet players and telecom operators.
