ETNO statement following the European Council of 25-26 June 2015

ETNO, the Association representing Europe’s leading telecom operators, welcomes the high prioritisation of digital policies by EU leaders, enshrined in today’s conclusions of the European Council.

The Heads of State's support for the Digital Single Market strategy and for an “ambitious reform” of the Telecoms Framework is an important first step towards a better investment climate boosting broadband deployment. ETNO also welcomes the European Council call for action with a view to “ensure effective investment instruments and improve the innovation climate”. We believe it is now time to ensure speedy reform, with the aim of urgently unlocking additional network investment.

ETNO, whose CEOs wrote last week to heads of state and government to call for swift action on digital policies, is looking forward to collaborating with the European Commission in their follow-up on the DSM Strategy.
