Press Release: ETNO and Commissioner Oettinger meet to discuss the importance of investments and growth for Europe's digital economy and society

A senior delegation from ETNO, representing Europe's main telecom operators, met today with Günther Oettinger, Commissioner for the digital economy and society.

The delegation included Dominique Leroy - CEO of Belgacom, Luigi Gambardella - ETNO Chair,  Steven Tas - incoming ETNO Chair, and Daniel Pataki - ETNO Director General.  

The discussion focused on how to enable innovative services and on how to best facilitate and incentivise the deployment of superfast networks. The overall objective should be to ensure that European citizens and businesses enjoy the most innovative services enabled by the best infrastructures.

Dominique Leroy, CEO of Belgacom, said: 'We believe that telecom companies are an important engine of Europe's growth. We play a significant role in putting Europe at the centre of the global digital revolution. Our companies are looking forward to a fruitful collaboration with the new Commission to achieve the ambitious goals.' 

ETNO Chairman Luigi Gambardella said: 'With Juncker's Commission, Europe can regain a leadership position. We support ambitious reforms to unlock a new investment flood in Europe's digital markets.'
