Roaming for Ukraine: European operators renew support to keep Ukrainian refugees connected

Brussels, 3 February 2023 - ETNO, the Association representing Europe’s leading telecom operators, signed a new statement to prolong the voluntary measures that have been supporting Ukrainian refugees to have affordable access to connectivity, use roaming at discounted prices or free of charge, and make international calls at lower rates.

Almost 1 year since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, European telecom operators continue to show commitment in supporting Ukrainian refugees to stay connected with their families and loved ones. There are now more than 4 million Ukrainian refugees who have benefited from the announced voluntary measures adopted.

Today’s renewed statement follows a series of initiatives that European operators have started offering since the early days of the conflict, including organising humanitarian aid with its employees, hand-out ICT equipment and network infrastructure components, organise free WiFi hotspots, free EU SIM cards, or ensure SMS donations, among others.

ETNO members congratulate the European Commission, the Body of European regulators of electronic communications (BEREC), and the Ukrainian National regulatory authority for their leadership. European operators look forward to continue playing their role in the current humanitarian crisis on European soil.
