Spectrum, inclusion and sustainability: why WRC-23 matters

At the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 in Dubai, the international governance of radio spectrum in mobile connectivity takes center stage. Radio spectrum is the lifeblood of mobile communications, and as such it plays a pivotal role in enabling seamless video calls, navigation apps, smart cities and much more.

However, this invisible natural resource is scarce, demanding efficient usage. To achieve this, we must establish common rules for coordinating spectrum use at both EU and global levels.

Our Policy Manager Xhoana Shehu delves into the significance of #WRC23 and the need for coordinated action to ensure connectivity for all.

Why China is losing the microchip war

In October 2022, the US government imposed a significant ban on advanced semiconductor chip sales to China, also preventing them from manufacturing these chips domestically. 

Microchips were invented in the US in the 1950s and have since become a global industry with supply chains spanning Europe and Asia. Although some countries have caught up with the US's chip-making capabilities, China still lags far behind.
